Mushroom Compost (Organic)

Perfect for Organic Gardening. Since recipes vary from one region or supplier to another, it is difficult to determine the exact makeup of mushroom compost. In general: The compost is made by mushroom growers. It uses organic materials such as hay, straw, corn, and grain-fed animal manure. Additional materials like gypsum, peat moss, lime, soybean meal, and various other organic items may be added to the compost as well. Mushroom spawn are mixed into the compost and steam pasteurization kills weeds and other harmful agents. A mixed layer of moss and lime is top dressed for the growth of more mushrooms. However, due to its chalk/lime content, it may be alkanine. It should not be used on acid-loving plants, nor should it be applied too frequently, as it will raise the soil's pH levels.
